TSG Hoffenheim preview: Kicking off at home
After progressing in the DFB Cup and UEFA Europa League qualifying, Eintracht begin their Bundesliga campaign on Sunday.
Adi Hütter’s side can expect a thorough examination right from the outset against Hoffenheim. There was little between the two teams last season, with Eintracht finishing seventh with 54 points and Hoffenheim ending up in ninth place on 51 points, as both sides narrowly missed out on the Bundesliga top six.
SGE unbeaten in four meetings
Last season, the Eagles fared well against Hoffenheim, who are now coached by Alfred Schreuder. After winning 2-1 in Sinsheim, SGE came from 2-1 down at the Commerzbank-Arena to snatch a thrilling 3-2 victory via two last-gasp goals from Sebastien Haller (89’) and Goncalo Paciencia (90+7’). Together with two 1-1 draws in the 2017/18 campaign, it means Eintracht are unbeaten in their last four encounters with TSG.
The Eagles will be looking to further improve their record against Hoffenheim on Sunday, as the overall head-to-head statistic still favours the visitors. Of the 20 meetings between the two sides, which have all come in the top flight, TSG have won eight. The points have been shared on seven occasions, with Eintracht triumphing five times.
Kick-off: Sunday 18 August, 15:30 CEST, Bundesliga Matchday 1.
Stadium: Commerzbank-Arena, Frankfurt.
