Paciencia scores on full Portugal debut
Exactly two years since his first senior international appearance, Goncalo Paciencia scored on his competitive debut for Portugal in a 6-0 win over Lithuania.
The comfortable victory against the Group B cellar-dwellers means that the European champions are just one game away from booking their place at EURO 2020. The visitors from the Baltics never stood a chance in Faro and the 6-0 scoreline was a fair reflection. Eintracht striker Paciencia gave an impressive performance, setting up Cristiano Ronaldo before getting on the scoresheet himself in the second half.
Having made his debut in a friendly against the USA on 14 November 2017, it was the 25-year-old’s first competitive appearance for the national team as well as his first goal. His Eagles strike partner André Silva was an unused substitute.
In the same group, Serbia beat Luxembourg 3-2 without Filip Kostic – who has left the squad after picking up a knock – and Mijat Gacinovic.
Kamada on course for World Cup
Daichi Kamada was also a spectator as Japan made it four wins out of four in World Cup qualifying by beating Kyrgyzstan 2-0.
