The final international break of 2019 ended in disappointing fashion for a number of Eintracht Frankfurt players.

Striker Dejan Joveljic played 90 minutes for Serbia’s Under-21s on Tuesday.
Striker Dejan Joveljic played 90 minutes for Serbia’s Under-21s on Tuesday.

Dejan Joveljic played the entire 90 minutes as Serbia Under-21s lost 2-0 to Russia in a 2021 European Championship qualifier, despite matching the Group E leaders for large parts of the game. The result leaves Serbia three points adrift of the two qualifying spots, but Joveljic and Co remain in the hunt for a place at the tournament in Slovenia and Hungary. Marijan Cavar also played the whole 90 minutes for Bosnia and Herzegovina U21 but the defensive midfielder was unable to prevent his side from losing 1-0 in Wales.

Martin Hinteregger’s Austria were beaten 1-0 in Latvia, but the defeat mattered little as Franco Foda’s side had already secured their place at EURO 2020. Eagles centre-back Hinteregger was one of several first-choice players rested by head coach Foda in Riga.

Fellow Eintracht defender Evan Ndicka was the only Eagles player to emerge victorious on Tuesday evening as the France Under-20s completed a successful international break, following up Friday’s 4-0 win over Turkey with a 2-1 success against the Netherlands.
