News Update: Fernandes joins – Internationals

Gelson Fernandes has joined the Eagles from Stade Rennais. The contract the Swiss international has signed with Eintracht runs until 2019. The 30-year-old has played in France, England, Italy, Portugal, Germany and Switzerland. Fernandes was born in Praia, Cape Verde. Before his time in France, Fernandes used to play for Bundesliga club SC Freiburg (38 games, 1 goal).
Fredi Bobic said on occasion of the transfer: “We believe that Gelson will be able to help us immediately. He has a lot of experience and he is a great character.”
Fernandes gave the following statement: “I am very happy to be back in the Bundesliga, one of the best leagues in the world. Eintracht is an ambitious club with a long tradition. I am looking forward to be part of and support the team.”
Speaking about Fernandes: Eintracht’s new signing gained some on-pitch action in Switzerland’s test match victory against Belarus (1-0). Both Fernandes and fellow Eagle Haris Seferovic came from the bench. The Swiss national team have won six matches in a row now, a new record. The next stop for the Swiss will be the World Cup qualifier on 9 June 2017 against the Faroe Islands.
Marco Fabián and the national team of Mexico have to compete in two World Cup qualifying matches and the Confederations Cup this summer. On Friday night, they won a match v Ireland in New Jersey (USA). Fabián remained on the bench throughout the 3-1 victory.
