Kovac: "I'm a bit annoyed we didn't win"
The Eintracht Frankfurt camp blamed poor chance conversion for their inability to beat Freiburg after the Eagles were held to a 1-1 draw on home turf to kick off the second half of the Bundesliga season.
Here's the reaction from the Frankfurt protagonists...
Niko Kovac felt his side could have emerged victorious: "We didn't put the game to bed in the first half. I'm a bit annoyed we didn't win, because the game was there for the taking. The second half wasn't as good as the first, but it's not as if they played us off the park. We need to repeat that good first-half performance for a whole 90 minutes now. That's what we're working on."
Omar Mascarell made his first start of the season after an injury lay-off: "It wasn't a bad performance from the team. We really wanted to win. Freiburg only really had one corner, but managed to equalise from it. Personally, I feel good and was able to complete the 90 minutes without suffering any pain."
Timothy Chandler played out of position at left wing-back but created the opening goal: "The coach started me on the opposite side to normal and it took a bit of time to get used to it, but I think on the whole it worked well. I gave it my all and managed to set up the goal. Even so, we're disappointed not to have taken the three points."
Kevin-Prince Boateng also felt the game was there for the taking for the Eagles: "We were asleep for 15 minutes after the restart and conceded the equaliser pretty much straight away. I think we deserved to win, though; we showed for long periods exactly what we were working on in the winter training camp – trying to keep the ball and play good football. The only thing missing today was the second goal. We now have to go away from home and pick up the points we dropped today."
