Jovic scores as Serbia draw with Germany
Luka Jovic carried his club form into international duty on Wednesday evening, making his full senior debut for Serbia and scoring in their 1-1 draw with Germany.
Wednesday’s meeting between Germany and Serbia in Wolfsburg may have only been a friendly, but there was plenty of interest from a Frankfurt perspective as the new international footballing year got under way. While Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp took his place on the bench for Die Mannschaft, there were three Eagles in the Serbia side, although this became two after Filip Kostic was forced to withdraw due to injury. Mijat Gacinovic and Jovic were both included in Mladen Krstajic’s starting line-up, though, with Jovic earning his first start for the senior team.
The 21-year-old soon justified his selection, heading Serbia in front after just 11 minutes and proving a constant threat until being replaced with 70 minutes on the clock. Midfielder Gacinovic came off in the 62nd minute and could therefore only watch as Leon Goretzka scored the equaliser (69’).
