Hinteregger signed a contract in Frankfurt on Thursday afternoon then flew with the team that evening to their training camp – where he spoke to us about being back for good.

Martin, we can finally say "Welcome to Frankfurt!" How do you feel?
“I’m fine, thanks! I couldn’t be happier to be back home. It took a little longer than anticipated but now I’m just over the moon to be back out on the pitch with the lads.”

It must be quite a relief for you that it’s all sorted now…

“I really do feel like a weight’s been lifted from me. Everyone knew from the off that what I wanted was to stay in Frankfurt, and now it’s settled. I look down at the pitch and know that I can look forward to the coming years, playing some classy football and enjoying my time with the fans and with the people of Frankfurt.”

What does running out onto the pitch in Frankfurt mean to you?

“It already made quite an impression on me as an opposition player, but to do it in an Eintracht jersey brings out other emotions and strengths that I simply can’t put into words. That’s what enabled us to develop as a team last year and put in strong performances out on the pitch. I’m just glad that I can be a part of it.”

You’ve signed a five-year deal with Eintracht. Where do you think this will take you on your footballing journey?
“We all want to have these experiences again and that’s what we’re currently working on. The club wants to constantly improve. We’re at the beginning of a new season and I hope that we can continue in the same direction that Eintracht has been going in for the past two years. And I want to play my part in that.”
