Fredi Bobic has been a member of the board at Eintracht Frankfurt Fußball AG since 2016, Axel Hellmann since 2012.

In explaining their decision, the judging panel recognised that Bobic and Hellmann had turned Eintracht Frankfurt into a club that are “not only competitive on the pitch, but also financially successful”. Since 2016, the 120-year-old club have gone from nearly dropping out of the Bundesliga to winning the DFB Cup in 2018 and reaching the semi-finals of the Europa League in 2019.

Eintracht have also achieved record turnover year after year during this period, with revenues hitting €201.4 million in the 2018/19 financial year. For the trade journal HORIZONT it’s vital that the winners not only have big visions but also understand their industry.

“Most of all, Eintracht Frankfurt prove in an impressive way that you can reinvent yourself as a football club without losing your soul,” stated HORIZONT. “With attractive football and phenomenal fan support, the club have caused a furore not just in Germany but across Europe.”

The Eintracht duo will be presented with their prize on the evening on Thursday 10 October during the Sportbusiness Leaders Forum.
