Eintracht manager Niko Kovac made three changes to his starting line-up: Blum, Tawatha and Hasebe (he will undergo surgery due to his knee injury) were replaced by Oczipka (back from a match ban), Russ and Fabián.

Quiet First Half

Both teams were trying to get hold of the match in the opening 10 minutes, there were a few corners and free-kicks but no major chances to report. Then Lewis Holtby had a first go for HSV but was off target (11'). The match remained unspectacular and tight until rebic set up Hrgota with a decent cross, Hrgota's volley was just off target though (29').

It was a tricky match for SGE who tried to get the attack going with a very present Marco Fabián in midfield and a tad more ball possession than Hamburg, yet they struggled to create scoring opportunities up front. A rather lacklustre first half came to its end with the natural 0-0 score line.

Better Re-Start

Niko Kovac made no substitution for the re-start, Rebic with a header after connecting with a Chandler cross in the six yard box, it went just over the cross-bar; a good opportunity (51'). Shortly after Eintracht had another good header, this time Abraham was set up with a corner cross by Fabian - the attempt went also over the bar (54').

The Eagles had more grip now, the match remained bumpy though as still plenty of interruption took place due to free-kicks, corners and offsides. But it was a better game now and that was down to SGE showing good attitude. Hector had a good chance when Hector was in the box and followed up a scrumble, his shot from short range was saved by HSV goalkeeper Adler though (72').

No Goals

Then Hrgota broke through on the left, sent off neatly by Oczipka but his cross for Rebic was blocked by a Hamburg defender (77'). Kovac nbrought on Tawatha for Russ (81'), Meier for Hrgota (84') and also Blum for Rebic (90') but the score line remained goalless after all. The Eagles were the better team after the break and could have scored the winner, but the 0-0 stood. Next up is the home match against Borussia Mönchengladbach after the international break (01 April at 18.30 CET).
