Eintracht Frankfurt are not used to back-to-back defeats. In an interview following Sunday’s loss to Augsburg, Goncalo Paciencia spoke about the Eagles fans and the team’s chances in the second leg against SL Benfica.

Goncalo, another nice goal from you at the weekend, but it was Augsburg who took the three points. What were the crucial factors in that?
“For us, it felt like one of our worst games of the season. We came into it on the back of a defeat in Lisbon and again we didn’t do enough to win the game. We now have time to prepare for the next one, put these results behind us and do better.”

How important are the fans for you?
“When we go over to the fans after a defeat like that and they’re singing, it gives us a big boost. At that moment, we feel they’re behind us. The fans are one of our big trump cards, they’re great. We want to win on Thursday for them too.”

It will certainly be a magical night against Benfica. Are you looking forward to it already?
“Absolutely. If we do manage to pull it off, the whole of Frankfurt would go wild. The fans will go berserk.”

What are your chances?
“It’s all to play for, I think. We didn’t play badly with 10 men in the first leg and, most importantly, we scored two goals so we’re still in the running. We’re playing at home with our fans, which is significant. It will be a different kind of game. We’ll show that we have character and passion.”
