Daichi Kamada topped off a 6-0 win for Japan over Mongolia, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder coming on in the 61st minute when the score was already 5-0. Just over 20 minutes later, he scored the final goal of the match and his first for his country in his third appearance. The comfortable victory put Japan top of World Cup qualifying Group F after two matchdays.

Crucial volley

Martin Hinteregger was virtually the match-winner in the seventh round of UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers. In a real six-pointer against Israel, Austria dominated proceedings but still found themselves a goal behind with half an hour gone after Eran Zahavi finished off a counter-attack. The hosts levelled shortly before the break at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna through Valentino Lazaro (41’), and then it was Hinti time! Ten minutes into the second half, a corner was deflected into the path of the defender, who volleyed it in to make it 2-1. Marcel Sabitzer then put the result beyond any doubt in the dying minutes (88’), completing a 3-1 win which leaves Austria sitting in second place in Group G with 13 points.

Elsewhere, Mijat Gacinovic was part of Serbia’s 1-0 friendly win over Paraguay, while Evan Ndicka was also on winning side as France U20s saw off their Norwegian counterparts 2-1. On Friday evening, striker Dejan Joveljic will be in action with Serbia’s U21s, who are away to Bulgaria in the third round of European Championship qualifiers. André Silva is also involved in Euro qualifying with Portugal’s senior squad as they face Luxemburg, with the defending European champions currently second in Group B on eight points with a game in hand.
