Serbia lost to Portugal in Belgrade after what was an intense 90 minutes, with the 4-2 final scoreline a fair reflection of the match. Kostic put in a good performance for 83 minutes before being substituted, playing as an attacking left-sided midfielder and touching the ball 38 times, completing 74 per cent of his passes and winning 57 per cent of his duels.

Fellow Eintracht player Mijat Gacinovic was not included in the squad for the encounter with the defending European champions.

For Kostic, Gacinovic and their Serbian team-mates, Group B is all about the number four. They have played four matches, picked up four points and have a goal difference of minus four – all of which has them currently in… fourth place. Their next match is on Tuesday at 20:45 CEST when they take on Luxemburg, who are level on points with them in the table.
