Eintracht cruise to friendly victory
Eintracht Frankfurt deservedly ran out 6-2 winners away to third-tier SV Wehen Wiesbaden in a friendly on Saturday.
It was Eintracht's second win in four pre-season friendlies as the Eagles put in an impressive performance to overcome their hosts. New signing Goncalo Paciencia's first-half goal – on his maiden outing for the club – opened the floodgates, before Luka Jovic, Danny Blum, Nicolai Müller and Mijat Gacinovic's brace gave the scoreline a resounding sheen in the second period.
Paciencia's perfect start
Head coach Adi Hütter handed summer arrivals Paciencia and Evan N'Dicka their first starts for the club, but – despite Frankfurt's confident opening – Wiesbaden took the lead against the run of play in the 17th minute through Simon Brandstetter. Eintracht's promising start was rewarded five minutes later, however, when Sébastien Haller unselfishly laid off for Paciencia, who made no mistake with the finish, marking his Eintracht debut with a goal.
Jovic returns in style
As he had done in previous friendlies, Hütter opted for ten changes at the break, replacing all of his outfield players. Having only re-joined his club-mates on Thursday after his efforts at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Jovic was one of the players introduced. Although it was his first outing of pre-season, the Serbian needed no time at all to get back up to speed, the 20-year-old giving the Eagles the lead seven minutes after the interval.
Sascha Mockenhaupt's 62nd-minute strike briefly levelled, but Blum restored Frankfurt's advantage two minutes later. Gacinovic then added a fourth and a fifth in quick succession as the visitors upped the ante; the midfielder's first goal was expertly created by Jovic, the second a fine finish to round off a flowing counterattack. Müller's deflected effort in the 87th minute then put the seal on a successful afternoon in Wiesbaden for Eintracht.
