Eagles face Bremen in last eight
Eintracht will host SV Werder Bremen in the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup, just days after facing the Green-and-Whites in the Bundesliga.
After beating Leipzig in the last 16 and recording their biggest league win of the season against Augsburg, Sunday’s quarter-final draw capped an eventful week for the Eagles. Adi Hütter’s side were paired with Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen, who they will face at the Commerzbank-Arena on either Tuesday 3 March or Wednesday 4 March.
The 2018 DFB Cup winners have beaten Waldhof Mannheim away (5-3), FC St. Pauli away (2-1) and Leipzig at home (3-1) so far in this season’s competition, while Werder have knocked out Atlas Delmenhorst (6-1), 1. FC Heidenheim (4-1) and Borussia Dortmund (3-2) en route to the quarters.
Just days earlier, the Eagles are due to travel to Werder on Matchday 24 of the Bundesliga. “It’s going to be all about Bremen that week,” said Eintracht board member Fredi Bobic. “We play at Bremen on Sunday before hosting them in the cup. We’re looking forward to it and obviously want to reach the semi-finals. It’s not going to be easy, but we’re confident of achieving our objective in front of our fans.”
The DFB Cup semi-finals take place on 21/22 April, while the final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion is scheduled for 23 May.
