Dortmund preview: Goals guaranteed when Eintracht meet BVB
Eintracht Frankfurt's trip to Borussia Dortmund on Sunday evening is a meeting between the sides currently third and fourth in the Bundesliga standings.
Very few experts would have predicted before the season that the fixture between Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 26 would bring together two sides in the Bundesliga top four. Both teams are level on 42 points going into Sunday's encounter, with the Eagles enjoying their best campaign since 1993/94.
Having won three of their last four games, Eintracht travel to Dortmund with the aim of ending their recent barren run at the Signal Iduna Park. It has been over eight years since the Eagles' last win in Dortmund, a 3-2 victory on 7 February 2010. That said, the fixture has never wanted for entertainment and in the last 43 meetings between the two clubs, there has always been at least one goal scored. Indeed, the sides have only ever played out one stalemate, way back in April 1990.
True to form, there were plenty of goals when the sides faced off earlier this season. In an entertaining contest at the Commerzbank-Arena, the hosts came from two goals down to draw 2-2, earning a point courtesy of a penalty from Sebastien Haller and an equaliser from Marius Wolf.
Eagles unbeaten when ahead
Head coach Niko Kovac will again be hoping to rely on the solidity of his back three and goalkeeper in Dortmund, as has been the case throughout the season. The Eagles are yet to lose after taking the lead this term, winning 12 times and drawing four. Leaders Bayern München are the only other side to have managed that.
Kevin-Prince Boateng returns to former club
Eintracht's midfield maestro Kevin-Prince Boateng returns to familiar surroundings on Sunday. The Berlin native, who turned 31 this week, spent the second half of 2008/09 on loan at Dortmund from Tottenham Hotspur, contributing two assists in ten games under then-coach Jürgen Klopp.
Kick-off: Sunday 11 March, 18:00 CET, Matchday 26, 2017/18 season
Venue: Signal Iduna Park, Dortmund
