The DFL committee has recommended that no matches be played before 30 April.

As a result of the ongoing spread of the coronavirus, the Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) committee reached the decision on Tuesday to recommend an extension of the current suspension.

The recommendation still needs to be ratified by the members’ meeting on 31 March. The DFL is currently working under extreme pressure to come up with plans for staging matches behind closed doors, while keeping the number of workers needed to a minimum.

Board member Fredi Bobic said on the matter: “Everyone’s aware of the situation we’re in. Everyone knows that it’s difficult to hold football matches at the moment. With that in mind, extending the suspension of games until 30 April 2020 is sensible. But the fact remains that every club wants to finish the season, and we’re remaining optimistic. The time will come when people start longing for the Bundesliga again, and we can help to distract them from everyday worries.”
