While Simon Falette made his first appearance for Guinea on Sunday, Ante Rebic and Croatia suffered a late defeat to England.

In the latest repeat of the 2018 FIFA World Cup semi-final between England and Croatia, it was the Three Lions who triumphed this time. Eintracht forward Ante Rebic started at Wembley but he was replaced by VfL Wolfsburg’s Josip Brekalo at half-time and had to watch on as his team squandered a 1-0 lead by conceding two goals in the closing stages. The 2-1 defeat left Croatia bottom of Group A4 in the UEFA Nations League, meaning they’re relegated to League B.

However, there was double cause for celebration for Simon Falette. Not only did the Eagles centre-back make his international debut for Guinea, but the 26-year-old also played his part in a 1-1 draw with Ivory Coast which secured Guinea’s place at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Both goals came in the first half and the result means both countries will take part in next summer’s tournament in Cameroon. Congratulations, Simon!
