Aymen Barkok is to join Bundesliga newcomers Fortuna Düsseldorf on loan for next season after extending his contract at Eintracht Frankfurt by a further year.

Contract extended, loan move agreed: Aymen Barkok will spend next season at Fortuna Düsseldorf having signed a one-year extension to his contract at Eintracht until 30 June 2021. The loan deal with the Rhineland club, who gained promotion back to the top tier last season, runs until 30 June 2019 and includes a purchase and buy-back option. Homegrown midfielder Barkok completed a medical on Tuesday and will join Fortuna for the start of pre-season training.

“Convinced by his ability”

Sporting director Bruno Hübner said: “We remain as convinced as ever by Aymen’s ability, which is why we tied him to a four-year contract in 2016 and have extended his contract by another year at the same time as agreeing this loan. Last season he didn’t get the opportunity to break into the first team at Eintracht. Therefore we think it’s a good solution for him to go to Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he’ll have the chance to make a strong impression.”

Barkok joined Eintracht’s Under-17 side from Kickers Offenbach during the 2013/14 season. After signing a professional contract in 2016, he was awarded a silver Fritz Walter Medal by the DFB (German Football Association) in 2017. Over the past two years, the 20-year-old has made a total of 29 competitive appearances for the Eagles, contributing two goals and three assists.
