A club for the ages: Eintracht celebrates 120th birthday in style
Eintracht Frankfurt put on one heck of a party to celebrate its 120th birthday at the Commerzbank Arena.
There was no doubting the illustriousness of the club’s history as the black-and-white-clad crowd roared “Im Herzen von Europe (In the heart of Europe)” – and the sheer numbers showed the future is every bit as bright. With entertainment from the Frankfurt Radio Symphony orchestra and videos playing on the giant screens, those in attendance were treated to a two-hour spectacular marking some of the club’s finest hours.
There were standing ovations for the 1959 title-winning side and wistful stares at the “stolen” championship of ’92. Last year’s DFB Cup victory and the subsequent European run were cheered with almost as much enthusiasm as during the season itself.
“Credit to the Eintracht family for such a fitting tribute to this wonderful club, its history and indeed themselves,” said club president Peter Fischer. “There have been some incredible moments over the past 120 years and I’m grateful to share a part in them. Eintracht Frankfurt has once again proven why it’s such a special club. I’m so proud and I think all our members, fans and friends for making this such a special occasion.”
