Eintracht lost 2-0 against 1860 München today, their first home defeat of the season. The goals were scored by Volland (17') and Vallori (21'), SGE's Constant Djakpa was sent off after 65 minutes. The defeat did not hold the fans from entering the pitch to celebrate Eintracht's promotion to the topflight.
In front of a 50,800 crowd three long time players were officially seen off as they will leave the club: Habib Bellaid, Ümit Korkmaz and Caio. The Brazilian midfielder was also in the starting line-up, Caio replaced Alex Meier who was not in the squad, as was Benny Köhler. Skipper Schwegler and also Djakpa returned to the line-up in a 4-4-2 formation, Kittel and Butscher stayed on the bench.
Decent Start – Double Blow
Eintracht had the first good moment when Schwegler chipped the ball into the box and found Jung who was called offside though. Then Caio’s attempt when just wide, missing the top corner of the goal (10’). He then set up Rode just outside the box from where he had a go but his powerful low shot came close but went wide.
With their first chance 1860 scored the opener when Lauth set up Volland who was attacked by Jung but managed to get the ball past keeper Nikolov (17’). And minutes later they increased the score line when a corner ended up with Vallori who headed in (21’).
Attempts To Come Back
Eintracht did try and get back into the match, Rode had another powerful left footed shot and 1860 keeper Eicher did well to save it. A couple of Caio’s long range free-kicks did not succeed either.
And when a Lehmann chip found Hoffer in the box it was again Eicher who denied the Austrian with a decent save (38’). Eintracht did not build up enough pressure and also made no use of their chances, hence the score line stood at the break.
Changes To Little Effect
Matmour and Korkmaz came on after the break for Hoffer and Caio, the formation changed to a 4-2-3-1 with Rode playing behind the striker. Matmour nearly forced an own goal with a questioning cross from the right but the ball went just past the post.
A corner by Schwegler was headed over the bar by Anderson, and one by Djakpa found Schildenfeld who again tested keeper Eicher with a powerful header, no Eintracht player was close to get the rebound.
Further Chances – Sending Off
And it was 1860 goalkeeper Eicher again who first saved a Rode shot from deep angle and then was at the end of a promising Djakpa free-kick from far range. Shortly after Djakpa was sent off with a straight Red Card for a harsh foul (65’).
After a couple of 1860 headers towards Nikolov’s goal the match calmed down and no major chances were created. The Eagles did not push for a comeback that much and also had to cope with being one man down.
Post Match Party
The fans did not mind too much. Before the start of the match they had choreographed a fantastic colourful display involving most of the 50,800 present. After the final whistle many of them entered the pitch and celebrated the return to Bundesliga. And the party continued around the stadium where plenty of smiley faces are looking forward to the next season already.
