1-1 Home Draw

Eintracht Frankfurt drew 1-1 against FC Ingolstadt with Idrissou (49') and Akaichi (71') scoring the goals in front of a 38,000 crowd. The Eagles therefor still have a 5 point advantage towards the play-off spot 3.

There was one change to Eintracht’s starting line-up compared to last Saturday’s match, manager Armin Veh brought on Heiko Butscher as a left defender instead of Constant Djakpa who was out due to a three match ban. Once again Idrissou and Hoffer started up front in a 4-4-2 formation.

The match started with a header of Meier in the very first minute that went over the bar. Eintracht had plenty of possession once again but failed to create pressing chances. They had opportunities mainly via set piece situations, but for example Idrissou and Köhler did not make the most of crosses coming from free-kicks and corners.

Ingolstadt stood deep and hardly made an effort to go forward,Eintracht controlled the match and kept pushing but despite decent attacking they showed no threat inside the box. Only Idrissou came close after 29 minutes but his shot went wide, Hoffer had another attempt which was blocked (34’). FCI had very little chances, mostly Nikolov was at hand to eliminate them.

Right after the break it was Ingolstadt keeper Özcan who did well to save an Idrissou shot. Moments later Meier passed the ball on to Rode on the right side who set up Idrissou. This time the Cameroon striker’s finish was clinical, he scored the lead for the Eagles with a shot into the bottom left corner of the goal (49’). It was Idrissou’s 12th of the season, only three Bundesliga 2 players (including Meier on 16) scored more so far.

Eintracht kept dominating the match in the second half but struggled to overcome the solid defense of the guests. Out of the blue Ingolstadt scored when Akaichi was left unmarked and converted a pass from inside the box (71’).

The Eagles had various chances in the last ten minutes of the match but Meier (81’, 86’, 88’) as well as Idrissou (83’) came close but either just missed the target or were denied by FCI keeper Özcan. In the standings Fürth remain at the top with Eintracht ranked second on 62 points – still 5 ahead of play-off spot 3 held by Düsseldorf.

The first of the remaining four matches of the season will be another home match, on Saturday already the Eagles will host Erzgebirge Aue (kick-off at 13h CET).
