Eintracht have lost their away match against MSV Duisburg 2-0 and dropped to spot 2 in the standings. 19,027 saw Sukalo (44') and Bruno Soares (52') scoring for the hosts just before and shortly after the break.
Eintracht manager Armin Veh made one change to the starting line-up, Sebastian Rode returned to midfield while Sonny Kittel was on the bench this time. Hoffer and Idrissou started up front again in a 4-4-2 formation.
Quiet First Half
The match started 10 minutes late due to high traffic volumes. Meier had a first go with a header which went over the bar after a free-kick cross by Schwegler (8’). On the other side Nikolov did well to deny Exslager (14’), the long time Eintracht goalkeeper completed 400 competitive matches against MSV. Then Jung was through on the right but his sharp cross did not find a team mate (16’).
It was a quiet first half with little events on either side, the Eagles surprisingly left the control of the match to the hosts who lacked consequence in their attacks though and had various incomplete passes towards the front. Eintracht played long balls instead of putting pressure on the hosts with dominance and possession of the recent games.
Triple Chance, Lucky Punch
Towards the break Alex Meier tried a long range shot which was a close miss (34’), Idrissou hit the ball over the bar from inside the box (35’) and Hoffer also missed a decent chance (38’).
Just when everyone seemed to settle with a goalless half time score MSV scored and it felt somewhat out of the blue. Berberovic hit in a mix of a cross and a shot which found Sukalo in the six yard box who tapped in for the lucky 1-0 lead (44’).
Double Change, 2nd Goal
Veh brought on Kittel and Matmour for the second half, Köhler and Hoffer were taken off. Nikolov made a classy double save against Brosinski (51’) but was beaten again a minute later. Meier deflected a Duisburg corner towards the own box where Bruno Soares did not hesitate to head in for MSV’s second goal (52’).
And the Eagles still did not manage to take control of the match, their game lacked creativity and dominance. Duisburg stood deep now and defended with passion and spirit while Eintracht struggled to get back into the match.
Little Chances, Passionate Hosts
The hosts seemed more focused than the Eagles and did well to defend their territory, only Meier (58’) and Kittel (80’/85’) were allowed shots while MSV had a chance on the break when Wolze’s shot went wide.
It was a deserved home win for Duisburg after all who controlled the high profile attacking unit of Eintracht throughout the 90 minutes. The defeat leaves the Eagles in spot 2 of the standings with a 7 point cushion towards the play-off spot held by Düsseldorf. Coming up are the home matches against FC Ingolstadt and Erzgebirge Aue – further possibilities for SGE to increase their chances of promotion.
