SGE-APOEL: 2-0 Home Win!

SGE won their last Group F match 2-0 against APOEL FC. Schröck (67') and Djakpa (77') scored the goals.

Great match and a goal: Stephan Schröck Great match and a goal: Stephan Schröck

Eintracht manager Armin Veh rotated plenty of players – eight in total - in and out of his starting line-up. Wiedwald started in goal, Russ as the team captain in center of the back four, Celozzi and Schröck on the right, Djakpa on the left. Rosenthal and Barnetta were in midfield, Lakic up front. Trapp, Jung, Zambrano, Oczipka, Schwegler, Rode, Joselu and Kadlec were rested.

Possession and Dominance

SGE came forward with some slick passing and plenty of possession – over 65% in the first half. APOEL defended deep in their own half and the Eagles were able to create various chances, nothing to pressing though. Schröck did well on the right, a first cross in was picked up by the APOEL keeper, and another one after a skillful run found Rosenthal who fired away, over the cross bar though (15’). A powerful cross of Djakpa from the left came right on spot into the five yard box, Barnetta just missed it unfortunately (19’). SGE did well but was unlucky here and there with through-balls and crosses.

Again Schröck came forward and found Inui, his shot was blocked though (31’). The Japanese midfielder was through on goal again minutes later but APOEL’s keeper Chiotis did well to deny him the goal (38’). Then Inui set up Schröck who tried a half chipped shot which went over the cross bar though (43’). It was a decent first half with plenty of dominance of the Eagles, still the 0-0 score line stood.

Decent Performance

The Eagles continued after the re-start as they had finished in the first, in control and dominating APOEL. They created a few chances, Lakic had a decent attempt just wide and was unlucky not get to a Schröck cross moments later. Then Barnetta set up Djakpa on the left who fired away but side-netted the ball (61’). Kittel had his comeback after a long time injury coming on for Barnetta (62’). It was then Djakpa who crossed in with vision as Schröck was free in the box – and this time the ball found the back of the net as Schröck headed in – 1-0 SGE (68’)!

Joselu came on for Lakic (69’) and SGE continued to dominate the match. Then Djakpa stepped up for a free-kick from around 25 meters, the man from the Ivory Coast fired away and hit home – 2-0 (77’)! The fans partied away on this cold evening – 32,400 had made their way into the stadium. Armin Veh used his last substitution and replaced Inui, Bakalorz came on (78’). The 2-0 win seemed never in danger, quite remarkable looking at all the changes manager Veh had made. The knock-out stage draw is held on Monday, SGE remain in three competitions over the winter break - well done lads!
