SGE-FCGB: Eintracht Are Back - 3-0!

Czech mate: Vaclav Kadlec scored - again! Czech mate: Vaclav Kadlec scored - again!

Armin Veh made one change in the starting line-up compared to Saturdays away match in Bremen; due to Oczipkas injury Djakpa started as left defender. The atmosphere in front of 45,000 was boiling when the teams entered the pitch.

EARLY STRIKES

And the first goal celebration did not take long as Aigner connected with a Djakpa cross and set up Kadlec in the five yard box; and SGEs new goal machine hit home 1-0 after only four minutes! The Eagles impressed with a confident style of play and did not hold back. Inui sent off a questioning cross and the ball again ended up with Kadlec who missed the goal this time just (13).

Shortly after that Barnetta and Inui played a one-two from a corner, Barnetta crossed in and found Russ who converted from close range 2-0 (16)! What a start to Eintrachts group stage campaign! And the Eagles continued to go forward despite the French side being no easy team to play at all. They had some good chances to score also, especially when Poko headed the ball from close range but the ball went just off target (25).

Then Barnetta broke through in a counter attack and laid off for Djakpa but his shot was blocked, Barnetta picked up the rebound but was not able to convert (39). A minute later Djakpa played a through ball towards Kadlec who got a touch to the ball but not enough power behind it another good chance (40). It was a great performance of Eintracht in the first half, the 2-0 lead well deserved and the fans were jubilant throughout.

EUROPEAN CRUISE

With the restart of the match Flum came on for Inui. Rode won a free-kick Djakpa stepped up and hit it in with a beauty of a curler 3-0 for the Eagles (51)! And they kept coming, moments later it was Barnetta with an attempt from the left side of the box but the shot went over the bar (57). Girondins were not helped by the fact that Orban brought down Aigner with a last man tackle and was sent off (60), Djakpas free-kick came close but went over.

A little later Rode had to be replaced with an injury, Celozzi came on (69). The match calmed down to some extent with Eintracht still going forward but without creating major scoring opportunities. Armin Veh made use of the third substitution when Lakic came on for Kadlec who received standing ovations (80). The 44,000 sang the club anthem as the Eagles were cruising and it was a great night for all apart from those connected to Girondins. Nothing else happened until the final whistle - SGE are back on the European map with an impressive performance against the French cup winners.
