Armin Veh was forced to make five changes compared to Thursdays Europa League match against Qarabag. Schwegler, Meier, Rode, Oczipka and Celozzi were left out, Schrck (right) and Djakpa (left) started in the back four, Russ and Rosenthal in midfield and Kadlec up front.

The match started with both sides going for it. Inui had a very early good chance from close range but was denied by Weidenfeller, Aigners header shortly after was wide (4). At the other end Trapp did well to save a Kuba attempt (5). After Hummels and Reus tried their luck for BVB it was Mkhitaryan who made it better from Dortmunds perspective and converted after Kuba had set him up 1-0 to BVB (10).

A Djakpa free-kick went close but wide (19), at the other end keeper Trapp nicked the ball off Lewandowskis foot just (20). Then Eintracht had a go again, this time Kadlec had an attempt after Rosenthal had set him up, Weidenfeller denied him with a good save (21). Both teams did not hold back offensively but now Dortmund was on the up and came forward more pressingly.

Bender, Mkhitaryan, Sahin and Lewandowski all tried their luck but did not find the net. Inui hit a fine cross towards Aigner who headed towards goal and hit the post, Kadlec came charging forward and converted the rebound from the center of the box 1-1 (36)! The goal brought back the crowd once again a 51,500 sell-out and seemed to push the Eagles. But the score line stood at half-time.

Eintracht went into the second half unchanged, BVB brought on Sokratis for Hummels. Not too many events took place until Dortmund struck again, and again it was their summer signing Mkhitaryan who hit home from the edge of the box 2-1 BVB (56). Six minutes later Anderson hit the post with a header after a Djakpa corner (62). At the other end Trapp denied Lewandowski with a fine save (65) and a little later Reus (68).

Oczipka came on for Djakpa (67) and Schwegler for Flum (71) Eintracht came forward pushing for the equalizer. Inui did well to keep hold of the ball on the right side and set up Kadlec in the middle who tried a back-heel kick which hit the side of the net (73). Then Kadlec and Russ were in the box again but did not find a way through the Dortmund defense (75). Inui this time on the left dummied Aubameyang but his attempt was blocked for a corner (82), shortly after he was replaced by Joselu (83). But despite three minutes stoppage time and various free-kick situations the Eagles did not manage to get the goal back.

SGE did well against a tough to play Dortmund team who showed plenty of skills going forward. But the Eagles who had to recover from five line-up changes fought back and nearly succeeded. With the international break hopefully the injured players will recover and be back in time for the away match against Werder Bremen (Sat 14-09-2013 at 15.30 CET) and the Europa League home match against Girondins de Bordeaux (Thu 19-09-2013 at 19 CET).

Well played, Eagles!
