SGE-QFK: Europe here we come!

The Eagles advance to the group stage of the Europa League after beating Qarabag 2-1 in the play-off second leg! Meier (10') and Inui (75') scored for SGE, Reynaldo for the guests (58').

Europe here we come! Europe here we come!

Armin Veh replaced Vaclav Kadlec and skipper Pirmin Schwegler returned to Eintracht's midfield. The Czech striker has already played for Sparta Prague in the UEL qualifiers and can only start for SGE in the group stage.

DRIVER SEAT

The supporters put on an impressive fan display ahead of kick-off, covering the whole stadium nearly - the atmosphere was duly suitable for this very special occasion. Eintracht were in the driver seat right away, Meier's early goal was called offside (7'). Minutes later he connected with a Rode cross and this time his goal stood - 1-0 Eagles (10')! It was his 8th goal in 8 competitive matches across seasons.

SGE then fully dominated the match with fluent passing and one touch football. Qarabag hardly got the ball but the Eagles failed to make use of their dominance and hardly created scoring opportunities. Meier, Aigner and Inui recorded some half chances but none of them created major danger.

Towards the end of the first half the match got more even with Eintracht hanging back a little more often, Qarabag tried their luck with long range efforts and funny enough recorded 5 shots while Eintracht was on 4 at the break - despite 62% ball possession and 60% one on one duels won. The 1-0 lead stood at half time.

DEAL DONE

The first chance after the re-start fell to Aigner who was set up by Meier but his attempt was saved by Qarabag keeper Varvodic (51'). It seemed that Qarabag was hanging back and waiting to break through on counter attacks. Surprisingly they succeeded when Reynaldo, who had just come on, scored from close range (58') - out of a sudden it was 1-1.

Armin Veh replaced Rode and Schwegler - Russ and Rosenthal came on (62'), then Meier also had to go off the pitch with an injury, Joselu took his position up front (69'). The Eagles acted a little nervous now and Qarabag came forward creating various decent chances - the best one fell to Reynaldo who just missed Kevin Trapps goal (74').

A minute later Eintracht sealed the deal of going through to the group stage - Rosenthal did well to keep the ball at the right edge of the box and hit a cross which found Inui who headed in - 2-1 (75')! Celebrations kicked in and the 47,000 partied away. Qarabag had another chance but Trapp did well to save their close range effort for a corner (85'). At the other end Inui broke through and crossed in but Joselu did not connect with the ball (86').

And that was it - Eintracht advance to the group stage - watch out for the Europa League draw tomorrow starting at 13 CET!
