We hope you had a great festive season and got well into the year 2013! Read an update on recent happenings at the club including transfer news, an indoor cup event and the Eintracht training camp in Abu Dhabi.
Marco Russ returned to home base
Former long-time Eintracht defender Marco Russ returns from VfL Wolfsburg, joining the Eagles on loan until June 2013. The 27 year old already joined the team and flew out to the training camp in Abu Dhabi with them. Russ joined SGE in 1997 and signed his first professional contract with Eintracht in 2004, he will receive the shirt number 4.
In an additional loan deal central defender Vadim Demidov has joined Celta de Vigo until June 2013 (contract with Eintracht until 2015). The Spanish side have been promoted to La Liga ahead of the running campaign.
During the winter training camp in Abu Dhabi (5th until 13th of January) the Eagles will play a couple of test matches. On Sunday the 6th they will meet UAE League team Al Jazira Club at the “Sheik Mohamed bin Zayed” stadium in Abu Dhabi (kick-off at 16.15h CET). On Friday the 11th they will meet fellow Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach at the “The Sevens” stadium in Dubai (kick-off at 16h CET).
Eintracht ended up third in the 35th Frankfurt indoor cup which is regularly held in Bundesliga winter breaks. They beat St. Pauli 5-3, drew against Kickers Offenbach 2-2 (the later winner of the event) and lost the semi-finals against Greuther Fürth after penalties. Finally they secured spot three with a 5-3 win against FSV Frankfurt. Oka Nikolov was received the best goalkeeper award, Constant Djakpa was named the best outfield player and Erwin Hoffer was top scorer of the event (4 goals).
