Read about two Eagles going to EURO 2012, a fan voting of an Eintracht all-star team and a new member of the board.
Croatian defender Gordon Schildenfeld
Only two days to go and one of the biggest sporting events will kick off – EURO 2012! Two Eagles will join the action in Poland and the Ukraine.
Croatian defender Gordon Schildenfeld looks like a set starter for his country in the tough group C matches against Ireland, Italy and Spain. Schildenfeld featured in Croatia’s recent test matches against Norway (1-1) and Estonia (3-1) and is hopeful to be in the starting line-up against the Republic of Ireland (10th of June).
Georgios ‘Schorsch’ Tzavellas will return to Eintracht from a loan spell at French Ligue 2 club Monaco. He was called up by Fernando Santos, the Portuguese manager of Greece, to join the Hellenic side during their EURO 2012 campaign. Greece will play the opener of the competition against one of the hosting nations on Friday – Poland. Tzavellas will team up with former Eintracht players Fanis Gekas and Nikos Liberopulos. They will also face the Czech Republic and Russia in group A.
Over the months of April and May Frankfurt public transport (VGF) and Eintracht Frankfurt carried out a fan voting. The poll – translating into “Eintracht’s Towers Of Strength” - gave the fans a chance to vote for their favourite Eintracht line-up of all times.
From a preselected list nearly 16,000 voted a goalie, three defenders, four midfielders, three forwards and a manager. These SGE all-time legends will now be printed life-size onto 12 columns of the subway station “Willy-Brandt-Platz” in Frankfurt’s city (planned for August).
“Eintracht’s Towers Of Strength”:
Goalkeeper: Oka Nikolov
Defenders: Karl-Heinz Körbel - Uwe Bindewald - Bruno Pezzey
Midfielders: Jürgen Grabowski - Uwe Bein - Jay-Jay Okocha - Alexander Schur
Strikers: Bernd Hölzenbein - Anthony Yeboah - Bum Kun Cha

At the start of June Axel Hellmann has taken up his new position on the board of Eintracht Frankfurt. He is replacing Dr. Thomas Pröckl and will be looking after the finances of the corporation alongside CEO Heribert Bruchhagen. Staffing, ticketing and merchandising will also be amongst his duties.
